When hiring someone for the job, employers are triggered by certain psychological traits. Basically, they want people who will easily fit into the role and make an immediate impact on the job.

In a nutshell, they will be looking at:

Your ability to perform in the role: Don’t lie on your resume — it’s a huge waste of time. Your resume must demonstrate your ability to meet challenges, quantifiable results, a pattern of success, effective decision making and the ability to implement changes.

Self-confidence: If you want the employer to believe you can do the job, you need to believe in yourself and your ability to do the job. Display a positive attitude, high energy levels and enthusiasm.

Leadership: Demonstrate confidence and courage in showing the ability to make difficult decisions clearly.

Integrity: Listen and learn. Integrity is about acting ethically, fairly and with emotional maturity. Try to steer clear of any office gossip and be friendly and approachable.

Communication skills: Prove you have outstanding written and oral skills and use them effectively. Your initial resume and interview will be where you first display these skills.

Aptitude: Show your ability to adapt to new situations and assume responsibility for your new role quickly. Prove how you’ve taken on new tasks and made them your own.

So how do you prove all of this? By choosing the right words in your resume is a great start. Go on have a go — see if you can write an aspect of your career to date that demonstrates the above.

If you get stuck, call EzyResume — we can pick up where you left off and give you a premium quality resume.

We all know it’s a frighteningly competitive job market out there and most employers are extremely busy people. In short, when you send off your resume, you only have 15-30 seconds to make an impression! So, how to do this?

Write a professional profile summary – a hint of your best stuff right up front

Use clear, simple language with ‘psychological’ power words

Make sure ‘white space’ is seen on the paper so it doesn’t look to overwhelming – remember executives are time poor and don’t want to read essays

Choose an easy to read font – at the end of the day, an executive who’s been starring at a computer or pieces of paper all day will appreciate an easy to read resume

Avoid discrimination – you don’t need to mention your age, race, marital status or religion

Be honest – don’t exaggerate your skills as ultimately, you will be found out

This is only just scratching the surface of what makes your resume ‘sell’ you to future employers. Stay tuned as EzyResume bring you little hints and tips on how to produce ‘job winning’ resumes.

Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging!

You may know that you’d be perfect for the job you’ve found. You have all the qualifications, education and experience and you’re so confident that no one else could possibly do this job better than you.

So you’ve sent off your resume and now you nervously await the call for an offer for an interview with the employer. With your resume being the employer’s first impression of you, here are some tips on how to present yourself on paper.

Language is everything!

The key to successful resumes is in the writing. Positive ‘action’ verbs give your resume power and direction. They help to:

Identify your skills that will be useful in the job at hand

Quantify your accomplishments and achievements in your career to date

Provide a clear description of what you did in your previous role/training/education

Make your resume more interesting and informative

Avoid the dreaded typo…

There’s nothing more unprofessional than a spelling mistake. It’s true – an employer does not want to see sloppy writing and errors in your most vital piece of communication to them.

Here are some tips:

Don’t use words which you aren’t familiar with – don’t try to use ‘big’ words if you don’t fully understand their meaning

Carefully read and re-read every word in your resume – ask a friend to also read over it

Perform a spell check on your finished resume – but be careful, not all mistakes are picked up and watch the Australian/American writing

Choose the right words!

Sounds easy, but avoid common mistakes such as:

Accept (to receive), except (to exclude)

Affect (to bring change), effect (result)

Personal (private), personnel (staff)

Role (a character assigned or a function), roll (to revolve)

If writing and English isn’t your thing, chat to EzyResumes – they are the professionals in resume writing!
